Rolando Garcia, Jr., MD

Dr. Rolando Garcia, Jr. was born in Cuba to Cuban parents. He attended college at Tulane University graduating summa cum laude for the Department of Biology. Dr. Garcia completed medical school at Tulane University School of Medicine where he obtained both a Doctor of Medicine degree and a Masters of Public Health.

In 1991, Dr. Garcia began a general surgery internship at Tulane followed by a four year residency in orthopedic surgery which he completed in 1996. During his last year of residency, Dr. Garcia served as the Chief Resident of the Department of Orthopedics and was the recipient of the prestigious Irene C. Thibodeaux award presented annually to the senior resident who, as selected by the first year class, best exemplifies the qualities of leadership, care, and who has been an outstanding role model for junior residents.

At the completion of his orthopedic surgery training, Dr. Garcia participated in a one year spine surgery fellowship at the North Carolina Spine Center in Chapel Hill, NC which he successfully completed in 1997. In 1997 Dr. Garcia joined the Orthopedic Care Center where he has been in practice for almost twenty years.

As an avid scientist and researcher, Dr. Garcia has participated in more than five FDA Investigational Device Exemption trials, serving as the co-lead investigator in the ActivL IDE trial. Dr. Garcia has multiple peer reviewed journal publications (see bibliography) as well as several book chapters (bibliography).

Dr. Garcia has served as Chief of Orthopedics and sat on the Board of Trustees at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center. In addition to his private practice, he has served the South Florida community as director of the scoliosis screening of Dade County and was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award by Easter Seals of Miami.
